Summary: Teal’c contemplates his teammies
Season/Spoiler info: none.
Captain Carter is rather like Princess
Leia. She is proud and fearless and possesses a heart the size of a Mandorian
fruit. And will endure no nonsense from her teammates. Colonel O’Neill, once
certain that there was no danger lurking behind the gently waving trees, has
been relentless in annoying both Captain Carter and Daniel Jackson, who finally
made a rapid exit from the clearing in which the Stargate stands.
I stand guard as she meticulously
disembowels a nonfunctional DHD on PTX-906. I believe her to be capable of
repairing the Millennium Falcon with far more speed and accuracy than Han Solo
ever accomplished.
If there is one thing I have learned
about the Tau’ri, one trait that I envy most vehemently, it is how they love.
Captain Carter, for example, loves those she loves fiercely and without guard
on her heart.
In fact, it is a trait that she and
Colonel O’Neill share, although he would be loath to admit to it. But his
concern for the safety of Daniel Jackson and Colonel Carter in today’s mission
was evident, scribed with deep lines upon his face until he was convinced this
was a safe planet. I can scarce believe that it is only duty that brings him to
this state of mind.
Daniel Jackson is completely different
in that respect. He exudes confidence in his abilities and skills, accepts
signs of affection from both Captain Carter and O’Neill but when called upon to
express his own emotions, becomes stiff in body, terse and uncommunicative.
“Teal’c, can you give me a hand?”
“I can, indeed, Captain Carter.”
“Okay, see this crystal here? It seems
to be a bit loose, if you can just find me something to jam in here to hold it,
I believe I can light up the DHD.”
“I will hold it while you attempt to
dial the gate.”
She shakes her head. “No, Teal’c, it’s
too dangerous. It could arc and give you a pretty good shock.”
“Here, try this.” Colonel O’Neill hands
her a piece of wood that he has shaped with a knife.
“Thank you, sir. You might want to get
Daniel, if this works, I don’t know if it will work the second time.”
“Could explain why this planet is
deserted. I’ll be right back with Little Boy Blue.”
“Little Boy Blue?” I inquire of Captain
Carter
She chuckles. “Old nursery rhyme. It’s
about a little boy who falls asleep while he’s supposed to be guarding sheep…or
cows, maybe….I forget.”
I frown at her. “Captain Carter, I find
most of these so-called nursery rhymes to be most disturbing in nature. Instead
of offering comfort and inducing sleep, these tales are filled with violence
and death.”
“If I ever have kids, I’m reading them
a math book or something.”
“That would seem to be a wise move,
Captain Carter.” There is the distinct sound of raised voices behind me. I sigh
as I stand. “It appears that Colonel O’Neill has located Daniel Jackson.”
“And annoyed him, again. And in less
than five minutes. That’s got to be some kind of a record.” Her smile is impish
in nature. “Teal’c, have you ever noticed the resemblance between those two and
a certain pair of freedom fighters from a galaxy far, far away?”
I gaze upon the sight of O’Neill
chivying Daniel Jackson toward us. “I assume you believe Colonel O’Neill to be
Han Solo and Daniel Jackson to be Luke Skywalker?”
“Don’t you see it?”
I glance over my shoulder at them as
they approach. Daniel Jackson with his unwavering belief in the basic goodness
of all people even after he is proven wrong and Colonel O’Neill whose
swaggering cockiness is an ill-fitting cloak to mask his unshakeable
determination to do the right thing for the right reason.
I return my full attention to Captain
Carter. “I do not find that any of SG-1 resembles any movie characters. Have
you repaired the device?”
“Yeah, I think so. Ready to give it a
try?”
“Indeed, Captain Carter, I have every
confidence that you will be proven successful in this endeavor.”
